This “contemporary antique” dove decoy is a dove that was carved in June 2016, then aged and painted to look like it’s 100 years old. It sits on a piece of Texas Mesquite wood, varnished for protection.
The process of carving a bird and then making it look as if it were old is quite fun! The finished product shows rasp marks, bump and “wear” and “evidence” of repainting over the years.
Dimensions (the dove is approx life size) are 7 3/4″ tall, 8.5″ wide and 3″ deep.
Carved out of sugar pine and handmade in Austin, Texas. On the underside, buried under layers of paint the carving number (#111), “DSPEER” and the date… JUN 16… wait… is that 1916? Haha, a fun piece and a beautiful work of art to display on your mantle.
